Instructions for Sample Mounting/Dismounting

For Use with Beamline Computer

Make sure the Robot Controls tab is selected!

These mounting instructions are use with the Robot Script interface on the beamline computer. The script inside the experimental hutch exhibits a different interface. If the Robot Controls tab is not selected, then the Robot Script inset screen will not be visible. This script passes information to the Robot Master which is located inside the experimental hutch.

Mount First Sample

You must cool the gripper prior to mounting your first sample. See instructions in Loading Pucks into the Robot Dewar for details. Or, if you are using the tabbed interface, click "Cool Gripper".

To mount your first sample click the Puck ID (A, B, C or D), then click the Sample ID (#1-16). The Puck ID and Sample ID colors will change to red as the robot moves to the sample location. When the dewar move is complete, the Puck ID color will change to yellow and the Sample ID will change to cyan. Then click MOUNT under Mount Ops. When the sample has been mounted, the voice will state, "Ready to Align Sample." At this time, you may go to the MD2 Software and align your sample.

Mount Next Sample

With a sample mounted on the goniometer, you have two choices.

Dismount

This commands returns the currently mounted sample to the puck. If Auto Mount is enabled, the pending sample will be mounted after the dismount is complete.

Maintenance Menu

Options available under the maintenance menu:

Restart_ServerRestart the Robot Server
Reconnect to ServerRe-establish connection between this script and the Robot Server
Save StatusSave the Current Location of the goniometer as the Status Position for aligning crystals
Home DewarHome the Dewar to re-align dewar with gripper.
Park GripperPut the gripper in the park position.
Auto MountEnable/disable Auto Mount. When Automount is enabled, then dismounting will automatically cause the pending sample to be mounted.

Ice Removal on Sample

If there is ice on your sample, you can wash your crystal by clicking on "Wash Crystal". The gripper will remove the sample from the goniometer, place it in the dewar and then agitate up and down to wash off surface ice. This command should only be used when a sample is mounted.

Ice Removal on Gripper

If a long time has passed between sample mounts (such as the duration of a long data collection), De-Ice Gripper and then Cool Gripper prior to dis-mounting. Ice builds up on the gripper during long intervals and will enter the storage dewar if not removed by de-icing. Ice in the storage dewar is drawn to any crystals present.
