July Status Update

Remote Data Collection

NE-CAT Staff Scientists have been hard at work squashing out bugs in the remote access software during the months of June and July.  Some select users have helped debugging the software by collecting real data remotely during this period.  Remote data collection will soon be available to any experienced user on the monowavelength beamline, 24-ID-E.  Users will be able to log in and actively control a session or watch data collection, video chat with support staff, align samples in real time, view diffraction images in both the data collection GUI or in a separate image viewer and collect data.  These screenshots show the GUI that will be available to users for remote data collection.

Fluorescence Detector Cover

New operable covers have been made for the SDD Fluorescence Detectors on both beamlines.  The covers will prevent the new, more sensitive detectors from sensing scattered fluorescence (back scatter) when they are not actively in use.  These covers are intended to prolong the life of the detectors as constant long-term exposure may diminish their sensitivity over time.
