Shipping Information

If you are shipping FedEx, we recommend Standard or Priority Overnight.  If you must use First Overnight, choose 'no signature required.'  We recommend shipping at least 2 days before your scheduled beamtime to avoid any shipping delays from weather or accidents. FedEx shipping is preferred, but UPS and DHL also deliver to the APS.  You are responsible for providing a return shipping label in your dewar.

Shipping of Hazardous Materials

Shipping dewar containers of liquid nitrogen or crystals frozen in propane, freon, or ethane are consider hazardous shipments. The shipment of all samples, chemicals, dewars, etc. must abide with all DOT and IATA regulations, the failure to do so may result in a delay or loss of your shipment along with possible fines. Argonne National Laboratory has obtained a letter of competent authority from the US DOT for the legal shipment via air transport of macromolecules frozen in propane, freon, and other flammable and nonflammable gases when packaged in a dry shipper. Under no circumstances may users transport a nonexempt hazardous or bio-hazardous material to the APS in their own vehicle.
